Matilda Gets Some Love

Matilda Gets Some Love

The saddest part of the Heath Ledger story (and there are many, many sad parts to it) is that his daughter with actress Michelle Williams will only be able to know her father through the roles he played in his relatively short cinematic career.  However, some of Ledger's famous friends and associates are leaving a different kind of legacy for the child.

Ledger did not amend his will to include daughter Matilda before his unexpected death, which means that there's a chance poor Matilda would not be properly provided for (never mind that fact that her mother is no slouch in the film department, either).

But Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell - the heartthrob actors who have each stepped into the role Ledger was unable to finish in the upcoming "The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus" -  are rumored by E!Online to have donated their paychecks to a fund for Matilda in lieu of Ledger's will.  And we all know, those are not slim paychecks they're donating.

Every once in a while, it's nice to hear that Hollywood does have a heart.  Even if the motivation for the love comes from a tragic place.

  • It is terribly sad about Matilda losing her father, but c'mon, does she really need THAT much money?! Give a couple grand to Sally Struthers too.

  • While I think that's a great gesture....it's not like she's a charity case. I really kind of don't like the choice of the words "properly provided for." She'll be fine. There are single mothers out there who make much less than Michelle Williams and provide adequately for their children. Their children just might not get the fanciest pram from England, or the latest cute outfit from Baby Gap. Matilda really looks a LOT like him, though, doesn't she?
