Facebook - The Movie
Facebook - The Movie
First, Aaron Sorkin exposed injustices in Army courts. Then in televised sports programming. Next, he took on the White House and followed it up with a little "Saturday Night Live." So which platform will the idolized writer/producer take on next? A little social networking site called Facebook.
According to "The Hollywood Reporter," Sorkin is in talks with producer Scott Rudin to put together a little movie about the creation of the friendly networking bohemeth. As research, Sorkin has created a page for himself within the site (or rather, one of his underlings has, as Sorkin claims to be internet illiterate) and is asking his new friends to share their Facebook experiences with him.
While the idea of a movie about a social networking site is an interesting one, my question - is there nearly enough time to make a film from start to finish before the Facebook generation, which arguably has the attention span of a distracted flea, has moved on to the next internet upstart. Why not a movie about the rise and spectacular fall of Friendster once they idiotically allowed people to see who had been viewing their page? Or the current downfall of Myspace, which has been overrun by internet predator types. Will Facebook still be of enough interest to support a full-fledged big screen experience? Only time and Sorkin will tell.
