South Park Did It Better

Director Brett Ratner ("X-Men 3") is considering beginning another videogame movie franchise. But it would be a very different movie gamble than that of "Tomb Raider" or "Resident Evil." Ratner wants to take on "Guitar Hero."
For those not familiar with the addictive rock star simulator, "Guitar Hero" and its cousin "Rock Band" allow players to simulate guitar (and drum) playing by pressing buttons in time with color-coded guides on the screen. While it does simulate a rock star feel and has caused more than one person to flash devil horns after a particularly good song, it is maybe not the most visually interesting game to watch other people play.
However, Ratner thinks "Guitar Hero" was made for the big screen. According to Ain't It Cool News, Ratner sees the story of "a kid who dreams of becoming a rock star and follows the dream by winning a "Guitar Hero" competition." While it is certainly a rock story of our time, it is also the "Guitar Hero" story laid out in a classic episode of South Park last year.
And my guess? "South Park" did it better.
